Stays at Monnington House are popular with walking groups and active families because of it’s ideal location on the Wye Valley Walk, but that’s not the only route you can take from the front door! Here are just 5 of our visitors favourite routes:
1. Wye Valley Walk – Stage 9
Easy Walk • From the Front Door
Monnington House sites along Stage 9 of the Wye Valley Walk, an easy section spanning 4.75 miles from Bredwardine to Byford. Starting at The Red Lion in Bredwardine, passing Brobury House and Gardens and ending at Byford Church
2. Moccas Hill Wood
Easy Walk • From the Front Door
Just over the river at Moccas is this wonderful nature reserve. There are a number of walking trails to suit all abilities and ages. On top of the hill you will be welcomed by breath-taking 360º views of the Wye Valley.
3. The Wye Walker E1: Bucolic
Moderate Walk • From the Front Door
The Bucolic is a 9.2km circular walk completable from Monnington House, following sections of the Wye River and skirting Staunton on Wye.
4. Arthur’s Stone
Challenging Walk • From the Front Door
Moderate Walk • Accessed by Car
Arthur’s Stone is an atmospheric Neolithic burial chamber made of great stone slabs, set in the hills above Herefordshire’s Golden Valley. You can either start at Monnington House or take a quick drive to nearby Bredwardine for a shorter route.

5. Hay Bluff
Challenging Walk • Accessed by Car
A more challenging walk, a short drive from Monnington House, taking you up the northern tip of the Black Mountains in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) to the Welsh border with stunning views of the Wye Valley.
